Special steel strip is a cold rolled steel plate including 0.20~1.5 percentage of carbon steel, high carbon steel, and special alloy steel (Mn, Cr, Mo, V, Ni added). It treats by heating for final special steel strip such as carburizing, quenching, and tempering, then is widely used for repetitive movement of main parts of machine, electricity, electron, automobile, and structure.
High carbon steel gets thick properly after hot rolling, pickling, cold rolling, annealing line in order, and is processed to be components and treated by heating finally.
There are two kinds of high carbon steel according to the level of alloy addition; high carbon steel/high carbon alloy steel for machine structural use and tool use.
Practical carbon steel usually contains 0.20~1.5 percentage of carbon, and there are many kinds of it from low carbon steel which is very soft to process but bad at quenching to high carbon steel which is very hard to process but good for quenching.
The amount of carbon affects not only its nature but also use, and there are four cases.
① when we need workability C = 0.05~0.3%
② when we need workability and toughness C = 0.3~0.45%
③ when we need toughness and wear resistance C = 0.45~0.65%
④ when we need wear resistance and hardness C = 0.65~1.2%
