The Armor-piercing Fin Stabilized Discarding Sabot (APFSDS) is a round of kinetic energy projectile fired from a gun used to attack armored targets. A sabot of APFSDS is a lightweight carrier used to transmit energy from the propellant to the projectile. As the sabot is a parasitic weight—in terms of projectile target performance—reducing the sabot’s weight allows greater projectile velocity, which increases both range and lethality of the round. A high-performance composite is the ideal solution for reducing the sabot’s weight. ADD, Poongsan, and DACC Composite have developed composite sabot for the 105 mm and 120 mm gun.
